make my day

Somehow, I got really lucky and was able to see almost all of my friends' bands one last time before I left, including Make My Day! I'd met Sam, Nori, and Julian a few years earlier when they were in their previous bands (Remembering Sensation and Ashley Scared the Sky) and on top of having some pretty awesome heavy music, they're all super nice guys, too.

Do I know any mean musicians? I dunno. Everyone was always pretty chill XD

Anyway, Landon was going to help me shoot an interview so we stopped at Saku-Saku Maple Shou for that decadent masterpiece you can see up there, so good, holy mother of pastries.

We shot an interview with the guys, but unfortunately we never finished it. Hopefully we'll get around to it one day though because it's pretty hilarious. The show itself was great, too! I'm always happy to see girugamesh as they used to be my favorite band once upon a time, and MMD never disappoint either. Always heavy, always wild, always great.

I also met Laura for the first time! She's a sweetheart and a half and she has a pretty awesome blog, too so check it out! I'm glad we finally got to meet over music and taco rice :)

I was thinking that putting up the addresses might make my blog a bit more useful? I may not be in Japan anymore, but if people stumble on this blog I'd like to be able to provide some more options for eats and entertainment besides Sukiya and Gusto, haha.  Hopefully it's helpful?

glorious chain cafe

Soon before leaving, I asked my friend Reimi, a stylist at Breen Tokyo, if she could style my hair and take some more professional headshots for my resume. This was followed by yakitori, drinks, and more sweets than one should consume in one sitting :D

Thanks for the hairdo, Reimi!

l-r: yomi, t.j., me, reimi, don-chan, julian

From the salon, Reimi and I made our way to Shibuya (with a pit stop at Cinnabon on the way) to meet our friend Don-chan, (Take Amublance) and T.J. (Her Name in Blood). After drinks and yakitori (because you can never have enough chicken on a stick) we headed over to Diesel's Glorious Chain Cafe to meet up with Julian (Make My Day) and tattoo artist Yomi.

This night was so fun and one of those times where I found myself realizing how much I would miss walking between Shibuya and Omotesando and just running into friends. I remember the first time I met each one of these people and sitting there having wine and cheese with everyone and splitting decadent pancakes with Don-chan, I realized how much I would miss them.

Anyway! Things you should check out next time you're in TKY:
▶ Yomi's tattoos (He did my first one!)
▶ Her Name in Blood
▶ Breen Tokyo
▶ Take Ambulance (Unfortunately, they've disbanded but still good!)
▶ Make My Day
▶ Glorious Chain Cafe

Let's all meet up again someday! Atlanta or Tokyo, haha :)

shimokita bunny cafe

So this happened like, a while ago. Which is predictable but hey, bunnehs. I'm also not quite sure why it takes me so long to update this blog; honestly once I sit down and commit it only takes me about 30-45 minutes to edit photos and blog. Well, depending on how many photos there are, haha.

Anyway.

So last month Jessi and I went to check out the bunny cafe in Shimokitazawa! And yes, I say bunnies and not rabbits. Way cuter.

It was a Monday...I think that we went? We figured we wouldn't need a reservation, but when we got there, they were completely full and we had about an hour to kill around Shimokita. Unfortunately we'd already gotten lunch so we just puttered around.

When we got back to the cafe, we ordered our drinks and changed into Crocs before we could enter the little "bunny room".

Seriously though. YOU GUYS.

THEY WERE SO CUTE. Like really bunnnies, get out.

It was so relaxing! You're allowed to hold them, but for some reason I didn't? Maybe I was afraid if I picked one up and I'd beeline it for the door or something, haha. They were all super cute but the black one and the B&W one were my favorites. Love, love, love lop-eared bunnies.

The little brown one--Peter Rabbit I think?---was cute too but man. He literally kept trying to hump everybody. They seemed used to it but seriously. Slow your roll, Peter.

We opted to stay for an hour so plus drink it was about 1400 yen total. I got an amaretto late, Jessi an orange drink. It's a little pricey but they only let so many people in the little room at a time so it's surprisingly private. Afterwards, purikura time!

10 points if you can find the Zoolander and Supernatural references :D

Also I'm not really trying to make this a cafe review blog or anything but I guess it would help if I start putting the addresses and such?

square enix cafe

This past Sunday I went to the Square Enix Cafe in Shinjuku with dish ♡ Though I haven't had time play anything in years, I actually used to be really into video games. Zelda was always my most abused drug of choice but I really loved Kingdom Hearts and some of the FF games. Nice to step into my past, though! Plus I'm basically always down for a cute cafe.

The restaurant is inside of an egg, literally. I thought it was just an entrance and the rest of it expanded underground but it's actually quite small so just in case be prepared to wait! It's also closer to Shinjuku 3-chome Station so I'd recommend going from there if you're not keen on walking. Though if you're as directionally challenged as me, you can always count on iPhone or Google maps to save your bacon regardless of what train station you come from.

Menu is in English and Japanese and the staff are also fluent in English! Just in case. Drinks are all cleverly named after in-game potions etc which was really neat. Really wanted to try one but I was saving my money for something else X3

Potion

Shrimp Rice

Bacon & Tomato Foccacia

To be honest, the portions are quite small for the prices but everything did taste really good. Especially dat bacon. Everyone loves bacon, okay. :B

dish opted for the Bavarian Creme in a Chocobo mug but I'd been eyeing the strawberry pancakes ever since they set them down in front of the two boys next to us on their Man-Date. Seriously delicious and almost too cute to eat. Almost.

Did I mention I love pancakes more than bacon? Cuz I do.

I would have liked to have taken more pictures of the interior but I wasn't sure to what extent they were allowed so I stuck with food and a what-I-thought-was-a-sneaky-shot, haha.

To be honest, a lot of stress hit me at once over the past...month now, I guess? So honestly I haven't had the energy or desire to blog nor really any content that was worth reading. However! Things have recently started looking up again and this past weekend was really great with this cafe, Golden Gai, a Geki Rock event and a show yesterday so I can slowly feel my motivation coming back so yaaay! :3

Oh and unrelated but I also finally started watching True Blood. And by that I mean I watched the first three seasons in two weeks. I'm not proud of it.

I'll try to keep it to a minimum but.
Seriously.

ERIC FUCKING NORTHMAN.
That is all.

aoyama flower market tea house

After about a 6+ year internet acquaintance, I had to chance to meet up with the lovely Miss Anna of Fenua Beauté yesterday. Flowers, makeup and the non-painful realization that we are, in fact, transitional hipsters.

Aoyama Flower Market Tea House is a gorgeous little cafe hidden in the back of a flower shop. It's closest to Exit A5 of Omotesando Station and despite the fact that we inititally walked right past it, super easy to find.

Rose soda, bacon-something-or-other on foccacia bread my brain mostly just said HELLYES foccacia bread and rose parfait. I'm normally not big on drinks or sweets with a floral flavor or aroma but all of the above were surprising easy to eat/drink! If nothing else, I highly recommend the rose parfait. It's deceptively filling for it's size too which is always a plus. :3

Exposed brick,  the sound of trickling water from various fountains, and plants literally everywhere. I honestly have no idea what the upkeep for this place must be like but it's got to be worth it for such lovely atmosphere.

The flower shop out front was equally as beautiful! If I had any discernible talent tending plants I would have considered getting one but seeing as how I can't even keep a cactus alive, I chose to only temporary admire. Regretting not getting anything just a tiny bit now, though.

After lunch Anna and I walked to Shibuya where I made some very mature purchasing decisions.

If my 17 year old self could see the music I listen to now, I'm pretty sure she'd just roll over and replay Marmalade Chainsaw one more time. Honestly, I never wanted to like Lana Del Rey but I cannot stop listening to ♫ ▶Dark Paradise.

After Tower Records we did a bit of shopping Parco before heading to purikura. According to Anna, we found the perfect machine for whities.

All of the cafe shots are actually from my Canon! I bought it when I was back in the states, mostly because I wanted to practice shooting shows, but also because I wanted to start documenting my life here with something other than an iPhone. The problem is I find carrying it around to cumbersome and to be perfectly honest, I'm somewhat lazy.

However! Having Anna long gave me a good excuse to shoot with my "real camera" as well and she has such lovely photos on her blog it kind of inspired me to stop being so lazy myself. Let's see if I can improve over the next couple of months!
