oki-fucking-nawa part IV

Last day in Okinawa! Last tacos, delicious coffee and the "best fuckin' ice cream followed by our last day at the beach.

So let's just overlook the fact that we went to Okinawa at the end of June and I'm just now getting this post up. Never said I was really on the ball there with punctuality, though so hey. Plus I have a lot of other stuff going on right now which I'll expound upon later. For now!

My other favorite day of the whole trip! To be perfectly honest 4 days is not nearly enough time but this day and day 2 were my absolute favorites.

I'm so sure.

Our first order of the day was tacos for breakfast. Literally.

Followed by a really cute cafe! Should've probably done this the other way around but, well. Coffee is coffee and, I mean. Tacos, man. TACOS. Priorities.

After that, our friend Taama came to pick us up so we could get our bags from the hotel before setting out for the day. Despite almost dying (but not really) on Saturday night--and all for the sake of root beer--some of the best & lulziest times were had in this car that day XD

Claimed to be the "best fuckin' ice cream" in all of Okinawa by our lulzy tour guide and he wasn't lying. Apparently I just can't eat it without it melting everywhere. I was thoroughly bullied for this.

After that we thought we'd try our luck at getting to the beach one last time before we had to leave. Cue about 30 minutes of aimless driving, some Fallout Boy and christening him the "Okinawa Asshole", we finally rounded a corner that looked promising.

The shadow really sells it.

The beach here is really just so, so beautiful and the water is so clear and so blue. We hung out at the beach for a while before making our way back to the clubhouse like area.

Where apparently Taama made a friend...

And apparently Lisa and I made two. Dat guy.

On our way back into Naha we picked up our now mutual friend Erykah from getting her tattoo done and started making our way to the airport.

USA USA.

So though we honestly spent most of the day driving around southern Okinawa, it was seriously the perfect way to end this vacation. Finally being able to take this vacation with Ri like we'd always planned, finally getting to hang out with Daisuke and Taama in their hometown, and meeting the amazing and lovely Erykah, I seriously couldn't have asked for a better "first time" for Okinawa.

We'll definitely be back next year :3

shores @ shinjuku ongakukan

So last month Lisa and I did a video comment for trick/rock. with hardcore band SHORES from Okinawa. We saw them when we went there in June and I'm really glad we got a chance to see them again here in Tokyo. :)

Though I seriously might need to invest in a tripod because the wind that day made for some really unsteady hands on my part but hey, I never claimed to be a pro videographer so I guess that's alright?

You can check out one of their videos below ↓

Seriously nice guys and if heavy music is your thing, they're definitely worth checking out!

oki-fucking-nawa part III

Two posts in less than a week? Who is this person, really. Anyway, Okinawa Day 3! We had intended on taking a ferry to Zamami but didn't realize how expensive it was so ended up changing our plans the night before. However! Thanks to Lisa's trip planning we made it work. :)

Early morning in Naha before the stores were open.

What up, Jamiroquai.

After that we decided to take the bus tour around Naha. I actually took some photos of one of the historic sites with my Canon--because I'm currently so dismally noob and needed practice--but I'll have to get them up later. For now the shoddy stylings masterpieces from my iPhone.

Tsukemeeeen.

After that we headed back into town for, well.

If you're thinking I eat way too many sweets, you're probably right. :D

After that we headed towards Kokusai Street again to see ROACH and SiM. Incorrectly assuming that, after all this is Okinawa and the show must be running on Okinawa time, we got to Central just a tiiiny bit late. Though we came in about halfway through ROACH's second song I'm still really glad we finally got to see them in their hometown. :3

First time seeing SiM, though! Always wanted to but hadn't managed to make it to a show of theirs yet. Certainly didn't disappoint. And they played Jack. B! ♡

Afterwards out for drinks to celebrate Mittan's last night in Okinawa, love her! ♡ She plays bass for The Heroes Syndicate so check them out!

Apparently I now drink invisible Cassis. :D

One more day to get up here! Have actually been super productive lately and will have a new band comment video up on trick/rock. on Wednesday! Let's see if I can get the last Okinawa post up by next weekend. :3

oki-fucking-nawa!! part II

Oki-fucking-nawa Day 2!! Up early for tarts, snorkeling, taco rice as big as your head, a bumpy jeep ride and a good old metal show.

We woke up pretty early and headed to breakfast while we waited for our friend Daisuke to pick us up to go snorkeling.

There was a ton of traffic that day so we busied ourselves at Saion Square! And of course, our traditional pseudo-hobbit second breakfast.

After, the drive to the beach! Naha is pretty far south on the main island but our snorkeling place was a bit farther north. The drive was a little bumpy--and especially so when you're in the backseat without a seatbelt but--as Daisuke said, "It's Okinawa so you'll be fine." Apprehensive about the lack of seatbelt as I was, riding in a car is something I really miss about the states so :D

Snorkeling was amazing! I honestly haven't gone snorkeling since I was 7 years old in Sanibel Island; chubby little thing pretending to be Ariel while my little brother slept off the Dramamine next to Captain Randy on the tiny boat.

This was so much better. I would have taken photos of the actual snorkeling location but you kind of had to go down these stone steps on the side of the cliff and go right into the water from a ledge of rocks. Tons of people and needless to say I was a little afraid of letting my phone swim with Nemo.

Who we totally saw by the way! Along with a ton of other really beautiful fish. Honestly, it was really moving. I could spend forever next to the ocean.

This wasn't the actual snorkeling location but somewhere we stopped before heading back to Naha.

On the way back we stopped at King Tacos for the most authentic and gargantuan taco rice you will ever see in your life. Maybe. At least mine. I was told I wouldn't be able to finish it.

I did. :D

After that we headed to Okinawa Cyber-Box for a video comment with Tokyo-based Her Name in Blood's show. We also got to see Okinawan hardcore band Shores! You can check out both bands on Youtube here and here. :3

We have a video comment by Her Name in Blood and some instagrams of both them and Shores on our webmagazine trick/rock. so check them out if you have some time!

Day 3 coming soon!
